This program was a challenging one, combining soprano, trumpet and organ. In the pieces for organ and for trumpet with organ, the playing was convincing and enjoyable. In the pieces for soprano and organ, the accompaniment occasionally drowned out the soloist, and in the pieces with all three performers, the soprano was completely overwhelmed. It's extremely difficult to balance such performers in a live setting, and that balance was not achieved -- perhaps not achievable -- here. I give the soprano high marks for trying, but she had no chance against an un-muted trumpet combined with the organ.
Were it not for this unfortunate choice of programming, my rating would be "very good".
