It's 1927, and the star couple of the silver screen, Don Lockwood and Lina Lammont, are faced with a foregone conclusion from day to day: in a new film, they will not only have to speak, but even sing in front of the camera! Don has no problem with it, unlike Lina, whose voice is ridiculously high-pitched. It already looks like the shoot will end in failure. But there's also Don's friend Cosmo Brown, a pianist and composer, who comes up with an idea... And that's when the young and beautiful aspiring actress Kathy Selden shows up. She first charms Don (how else, without love, the musical could not exist...) and finally the two friends come up with the idea that she could dubb Lina. Come and see how it all turns out at the Hybernia Theatre.
... it is surprising that the stage/theatrical version of Singing in the Rain did not arrive until 1985. It was first performed at Broadway's Gershwin Theater and had a total of 367 sold-out performances. Subsequently, it ran around the stages of the whole world.
This musical has been performed ten times in our country so far. The Czech premiere was at the Moravian-Silesian National Theater (Jiří Myron Theater) in Ostrava in 1999, and most recently it was presented by the opera of the South Bohemian Theater of České Budějovice in 2015. Among the most successful is the Liberec version directed by Oldřich Kříž, with first-rate musical stars, which was performed until until 2015. It is the variation of this production that comes to Prague's Hybernia theater in the new year. And there is definitely something to look forward to.
