The Swan Lake by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is one of the world´s most famous ballets
The immortal love story of Prince Siegfried and the tender Princess Odette, who is turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer von Rothbart, is synonymous with classical ballet itself.
To date, the National Theatre in Prague has staged 13 adaptations of Swan Lake, which have been choreographed by Augustin Berger, Achille Viscusi, Remislav Remislavsky, Elizaveta Nikolska, Alexander Romanovich Tomsky, Jiří Němeček, Olga Skálová, Konstantin Mikhailovich Sergeyev, Lev Ivanov, Erich Walter, Růžena Mazalová, Marius Petipa, Vlastimil Harapes, Pavel Ďumbala, Hana Vláčilová and Kenneth Greve.
The new Czech National Ballet production will be a revival of the immortal story’s version created by the world-renowned choreographer John Cranko, the founder of the Stuttgarter Ballett, shortly before his premature death. His aim was to deliver a Romantic atmosphere and to incorporate into his piece both the glory of concept and a certain domesticity.
Did you know?
The first to choreograph the music in Russia was a Czech native, Václav Reisinger, and the second (Czech) choreographer, Augustin Berger, was extremely honoured when, after seeing his staging of Act 2 of Swan Lake in Prague Tchaikovsky said that he had experienced “moments of absolute happiness”.
Our experience:
Watching the most famous ballet in the world was a true once in a life experience. There were moments when we held our breath with pure awe and admiration for all the hard work done. The orchestra is superb, the soloists were heavenly and all the cast deserved a medal. The traditional ballet in fresh dress - yet very tactfully and most beautifully performed. We definitely recommend.
