Hear one of the Dvořák's most popular works

The programme is based on a musical part but also on a spoken word that will be given in Czech language only. The programme will not be supplied with English subtitles.

Listen to Antonín Dvořák’s beautiful Eighth Symphony in G major, his last before the New World Symphony. When the Vienna Philharmonic first played the symphony on 4 January 1891, the music critic Eduard Hanslick wrote: “This entire work is one of Dvořák’s best… Dvořák is a serious artist and has learned much, but his knowledge has not cost him his spontaneity and freshness. His works give voice to a singular individual who exudes a refreshing breath of innovation and originality. Dvořák’s works grow sometimes to prodigious proportions, sometimes to more modest ones, rising to greater or lesser heights, but all of them are full grown. And it is that natural growth that wins us over so quickly in our age of reason and that we so gladly remain faithful to.”
