Love lyrics in Baroque music and Hebrew melo

Soprano Viktorie Kaplanová and harpsichordist Filip Dvořák will present charming songs, madrigals and cantatas of Baroque composers (C. Monteverdi, B. Strozzi, G. F. Händel, etc.). The amorous poetic texts of these compositions are complemented by the poetry of Georges Gordon Byron, who in 1815 set the lyrics for the English Jewish composer Isaac Nathan, a collection of songs called Hebrew Melodies. These are old Jewish songs used in synagogue liturgy, but most likely also Nathan's own compositions. The program includes those that the famous poet provided with lyrical texts about worldly love.

Program:

  • Oh, snatched away in beauty`s bloom
Hebrew melodies (1815): Isaac Nathan, George Gordon Byron
  • Amor dormiglione
    Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677)
  • Cosi mi disprezzate
    Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583-1643)
  • I saw thee weep

    Johann Kaspar Kerll (1627-1694)
  • E pazzo il mio core
    Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677)
  • Ohime, ch` io cado
    Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
  • If the high world
