The emperor Charles IV founded the Emmaus Monastery with a daring idea of unifying Greek and Roman churches. He invited monks from Balkan and Slavic liturgy was served here. At present, the monastery is a part of the Slavonic Congregation of St. Adalbert, founded in 1945. The interior is decorated with paintings that are among the rarest sights of Czech Gothic and Beuron Art School. The paintings depict scenes from both biblical laws. These frescoes are a European rarity and among the most precious surviving monuments of the Gothic period. Baroque Refectory of Emmaus Abbey has a great acoustics and the concerts of classical music are often held here.
