Dum U kastanu (House At The Chesnut)is a building whose history is not well known among the new Czech generation.

Initially the House used to serve as a tavern founded with the renewal of the Brevnov Monastery. The tavern became very popular and was rebuilt from the Baroque style to the Classicism. Whe the town walls went down, the restaurant became a place for family trips where various meetings were held as well as assemblys and reunions of organizations and group such as Sokol or the firemen.

In April 1878 the Czechoslovak social - democratic party was founded there. It ended with arrests and trials, because the monarchy was against the social democracy.
During the communist epoque there was even a Museum of the Labourer Movement Origins. In 1962 was the House entitled a National Cultural Monument.

In 90's after many reconstructions Kastan became a cultural center of Prague 6. Since 2003 the history of Kastan is bind to Unijazz.
