Náměstí Republiky is located in the place of the former city wall between the Old and New Town of Prague
The square got its name thanks to the fact that the first Czechoslovak Republic was proclaimed in the Municipal House in 1918. In addition to the pearl of Art Nouveau, the Municipal House, the pleasant space of the square in the center of Prague is surrounded by other important buildings. Gothic Powder Gate, Hybernia Theater (former monastery), Church of St. Josef, the Kotva and Palladium department stores make of Republic Square a picturesque place.
