New Town Hall was founded by Emperor Charles IV in the 14th century

The New Town Hall was founded in the 14th century by Charles IV as an important building of Prague New Town. In the 15th century the Hussite movement started here by The First Prague Defenestration. New Town Hall serves as a cultural and social centre.
 
It used to be a centre of municipal administration until 18th century, when Emperor Josef II. changed it into a criminal courthouse with a prison. Nowadays, New Town Hall is a national cultural heritage.
