Details:
The Municipal House was built at the place of the former Royal Court in 1912 to celebrate the Czech nation. It is a representative building which for its splendour and beautiful decorations is one of the jewels of Prague architecture. Although the building is usually described as an "Art Nouveau" edifice it is more of a blend of neo-Baroque, neo-Renaissance, western and oriental influences and Czech Art Nouveau style.
The original Pilsner restaurant is situated in the basement of the building and together with the French restaurant represents the best that each cuisine offers. Besides the specials offered here the space is interesting also in terms of arts and crafts. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with three paintings in ceramic mosaic. Destroyed original equipment was restored and completed, including copies of window boxes, tables and chairs, faithful copies of original lamps and clocks. Ceramic tiles with city emblems and decorative stained-glass windows are original. Decorative vases are also faithful reconstructions of a single preserved original.
