Founded in the 13th century, the Stone Bell House was further altered and enlarged in the 14th century into a highly representative opulent house with a corner tower dominating the square. Its architectural orientation towards northern France and figurative sculptures originally decorating the facade and celebrating the kingdom and royal family leads us to believe that this house served as a temporary residence of king John of Luxembourg and his family.
In a unique atmosphere of Gothic palace you can listen to original musical projects featuring the best of classical music in Prague. The typical house sign, a stone bell, was mounted on the corner of the house in the 16th century, but in the Middle Ages the house was called the "White Bell House".
The house was rebuilt many times and in 19th century it was hidden under a Neo-Baroque facade. Fortunately, it was taken down during a 1980's reconstruction so we can admire the elegance and beauty of a Gothic palace again. The Stone Bell House is currently under the management of the City Gallery of Prague holding exhibitions and chamber music concerts in the house.
