The band Bárka is made up of violoncellist Pavel Barnáš and harpist Ivana Pokorná. Both musicians have decades of experience playing in renowned orchestras, however they also wanted to step away from this to play music of their own choosing. They wanted to do this in a smaller ensemble, without sheet music and without the guidance of a conductor.
The group mainly focuses on well known compositions and film melodies, which through the use of their unique instrumentation, sounds very impressive. “Bárka offers a cruise across various musical genres using harp and cello – we sail through stormy and calm waters and enjoy the joy of music, ” summarises Pavel Barnáš, cellist of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in Prague. His counterpart, Ivana Pokorná is a member of the National Theatre Orchestra and always likes to collaborate with musicians from other musical genres. In the band, Bárka plays the Celtic harp, which is smaller and lighter than the traditional harp used in a large orchestra.
“To summarise, we put our instruments on our shoulders and set out in our free time to discover new musical waters that we hoped would bring us more freedom and adventure. ”
