Danielle Wertz blends jazz, folk, and experimental vocal textures to create a deeply personal sound
Described as a “masterful ballad interpreter” (NYC Jazz Record) and a semi-finalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition, Danielle Wertz is an award-winning vocalist, composer, and arranger gaining international recognition.
Her debut album Intertwined (2017) was named one of the best jazz records of the year in Washington, D.C., and led to her becoming a finalist in both the Ella Fitzgerald and Mid-Atlantic Jazz Vocal Competitions. After relocating to California, Danielle became a sought-after collaborator, performing at venues like SFJAZZ and appearing on albums by artists such as Javier Santiago and Paul Combs. As an educator, she taught at the California Jazz Conservatory, Sonoma State University, and the Berkeley Jazzschool, with specialized training in Somatic Voicework™ and courses on working with diverse vocalists across genres and identities. In 2022, Danielle co-created and starred in a theatrical concert celebrating the music of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, praised as “enchanting and reverent” (DC Theatre Arts).
The show continues to tour nationally. Her sophomore album Other Side (2023) showcased her evolution as a composer and was supported by a national tour with performances at top venues including Blues Alley and Sam First. In 2025, Danielle remains an active part of the NYC jazz scene, featured on Remy LeBoeuf’s Heartland Radio, performing at The Jazz Gallery and Room 623, and touring with guitarist Tal Yahalom. She will release a new album with Remy LeBoeuf & The Nordkraft Big Band (Denmark) in April and will headline her first European tour in September.
