Accordionist Vojta Drnek and his trio breathe new life into jazz standards

Accordionist Vojta Drnek, based in Berlin, is known for pushing the boundaries of his instrument. His projects steer away from traditional accordion styles like tango or musette, instead exploring brand new ways to enrich the jazz world. He has collaborated with John Hollenbeck, Phil Donkin, and the Ukrainian singer Ganna Gryniva. In his new trio, he returns to his jazz roots.

The Standards Trio features guitarist Jan Lacina, co-leader of the acclaimed quartet 2in2out, and bassist Luan Gonçalves, known for his work with Jiří Levíček’s trio. Together, they breathe new life into jazz standards — from the virtuosic bebop of Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk to the driving hard bop of Benny Golson and Freddie Hubbard, and the lyrical ballads of Carla Bley and Thad Jones.

The high level of acoustic set up in this Prague jazz club allows live jazz music gigs until the morning hours! Often during a one single evening several jazz bands together as well as guest musicians will change on jazz club stage.

Jazz Dock has its own music concept. It´s dramaturgy is specific for its several-days concert blocks of significant Czech jazz bands and foreign bands and regular jazz festivals focused on a particular jazz genre, specific country or dominant jazz instrument.
