Jazz & Blues Club Ungelt welcomes the distinctive Libor Šmoldas Organ Trio
For his Organ Trio, the leading Czech guitarist Libor Šmoldas has teamed up with outstanding organist Jakub Zomer, whose popularity among Czech jazz audiences continues to grow, and drummer Daniel Šoltis, known from acclaimed Czech bands such as -123 Minut and Vertigo.
The trio has appeared on prestigious international stages including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Melbourne Recital Centre in Australia, and the Yokohama Jazz Festival in Japan. Most frequently, however, the group performs throughout Europe and in Prague’s vibrant club scene. Audiences are consistently captivated by the band’s infectious positive energy and its original compositions, which draw not only from the jazz tradition but are also deeply rooted in the blues, funk, and soul music of the 1960s. The trio’s distinctive sound is shaped by Libor’s guitar, Daniel’s dynamic drumming, and, above all, the authentic Hammond B3 organ—a legendary instrument familiar to music lovers around the world, yet still a rare sight and sound in Central Europe.
About Libor Šmoldas:
Libor Šmoldas (born 1982) is one of the leading Czech jazz guitarists. His concert activities span four continents and have taken him to major world cities including New York, Washington, Sydney, Beijing, Istanbul, Vienna, Berlin, Denver, Milan, Philadelphia, Brisbane, Paris, Melbourne, Dublin, Amsterdam, and London. He tours regularly in the United States, Australia, and several European countries.
Among the renowned venues where he has performed are Pizza Express, Smalls, Iridium, Blue Note, Dear Head Inn, and Bennetts Lane. In the Czech Republic, he has played more than two thousand club concerts, appeared at leading festivals such as Prague Spring, Prague Proms, Brno Jazz Fest, Bohemia Jazz Fest, Strings of Autumn, and Janáček May, and collaborated with virtually the entire Czech jazz elite, including Ondřej Pivec, Robert Balzar, and David Dorůžka.
Libor has performed and recorded with internationally acclaimed musicians such as George Mraz, Jeff Ballard, Sam Yahel, Bobby Watson, Adam Nussbaum, Brian Charette, and Jay Anderson. His awards include Best Jazz Composition of the Year (2014) and the Anděl Award for Jazz Album of the Year with Organic Quartet. He teaches at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague and regularly leads workshops in England, Germany, Greece, Italy, and Australia. As a bandleader, he has released nine albums under his own name, in addition to numerous recordings as a sideman.
