Ave Maria; Bach – Air ; Mozart – Ave verum
Famous Prague organ from 1702
Hear J. S. Bach, T. Albinoni or W. A. Mozart being performed on the second oldest organ in Prague.
The Church of St. Francis of Assisi from 1688 belonging to the Order of the Red Cross is an exceptional work of a Burgundy architect Jean Baptiste Mathey. Inconspicuous from outside, the church is in fact very important part of the Old Town skyline.
In Baroque times, this building inspired by the contemporary Roman architecture came across in Prague as a revelation and became a model for many contemporary architects. Interior decorations stand out by their sophistication dominated by a fresco of the Last Judgement by the famous Prague Baroque painter Václav Vavřinec Reiner.
St. Francis Church houses the second oldest organ in Prague played by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonín Dvořák and other famous musial personalities. Nowadays classical and organ concerts are held at St. Francis of Assisi church. Organ concerts at Knights of the Cross are drafted as one hour long coherent programmes.
Besides compositions of world known masters of Baroque and Classicism you can hear music of Czech authors. Popular dramaturgy (which is, however, artistically valuable) completes rich sound of organ and its combination with solo instruments or vocal, so listener is always surprised by new colours and sound variations. Usually three artists perform at the concerts – soloists of our prominent opera and orchestra ensembles, pedagogues of the Academy of Music and Prague conservatory.

The organist used used all at his disposal to deliver a satisfying performance--in terms of registration and contrast especially. The trumpeter and vocalist were also excellent, although it was difficult to hear the vocalist. The program was well-balanced and they performed what they said they would. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
An old church is always a great place for concert
A beautiful church, ideal for organ concerts. The acoustics were excellent and it was nice to enjoy the singers on the balcony and then facing us.
Beautiful, stunning church
The acoustic in the Church was one of the best we've ever experienced.. It was a privilege to hear such wonderful musicians in such a beautiful setting.
The assistance we received in light of my wife's medical emergency was kind, considerate, and professional.
Akustika kostela úžasná.
Nádherný interiér kostela.
The church was freezing
Très belle église
Nádherné prostredizd9d9
Krásný prostor a akustika
The initial visual impact when stepping through the door was one that will stay with me for a long time. The location of the organ made it impossible to see the musicians which required me to listen only. I feel that this actually enhanced the experience and made the evening all the more memorable.
Beautiful and amazing natural sound effect.
Could not imagine a better venue
The organ -- the chief appeal of this venue -- has a fine sound in the space. It is located in a side balcony and can only be seen by a small portion of the audience. For an organ concert, that is to be expected, but one expects to be able to seen the other soloists, and as they were in the organ loft, they were largely invisible. It would have been much better to have the soloists on the ground floor near the church's altar, which might also have reduced the balance problem by putting them closer to the audience than the organ. However, I realize that makes it harder for the organist to keep synchronized with the soloists.
breathtaking surroundings
O kostele Křižovníků není co dodat. Je fantastický a je skvostem vnější i vnitřní architektury.
Dobra mista a moc pekna atmosfera
Výhled dobrý, poslech skvělý. Kostelní lavice nepohodlné.
Dřevěná lavice pro mě byla velmi nepohodlná
Excellent
The organ is on the front right on a high balcony. All performers are on the balcony so no one can see much of them during the performances - mainly auditory. The church is beautiful and has great acoustics.
Krásné místo, bezvadná atmosféra a úžasní interpreti, děvčata byla naprosto famózní, rozhodně přijdu znovu, hezký den, Milan K... :-)
Centrally located
First class acoustics. Uncomfortable seats. Superb art work.
Not hard to reach with instructions and signposts along the way; a typical Baroque interior.
Krásné prostory kostela a skvělá akustika.
Wonderful
Very beautiful and well located, easy to access
Fantastic church—absolutely breathtaking. The acoustics were wonderful. It was very surreal to hear Mozart and Dvorak performed on an organ that both composers personally played during their lifetimes.
I rate it lower just because it was very cold
Thank you !
Could provide some sort of heating and better seating though.
Very good -- for organ music. Not so much for brass or solo soprano.
The seats are not the best, but the concert doesn't take too long, so it's manageable.
Lovely setting! One suggestion: make clearer online what the various sections mean (a/b/c) in terms of what you can see during the concert. Also website says to get to venue early to claim seats, but when we arrived they were all assigned. Should be clear there are assigned seats for this event, not a free-for-all.
Beautiful!
